Working with this necklace of blue lapis lazuli, (one of my fave gemstones) and gold, I couldn’t help but recall the boys in my 5th grade class in their Cub Scouts uniforms. Centered by a translucent, blue veined, gold cored focal, tube shaped and round lapis stones line up to strut their stuff.
Royal blue lamp work glass is a dazzler. These beads are handmade using a propane “lamp” or torch to soften and mold the glass. The six-sided, round and oval mother of pearl coins interplay with metallic silver discs and squares.
I’m a sucker for Meissen’s blue onion patterns and Delft blue china, so I couldn’t resist this echo of those prized European designs. A large goldtone bead holds court as the focal with clear, crackle and assorted smaller blue beads waiting in the wings.

Something Blue and Fishy. 20.5”
This is an example of being asymmetrical, but keeping the balance with size, shape and color. It’s a fun way to stretch and push the envelope, experimenting with the blue color family, silvery tones and shell components.

Navy Owls and
Chinese beads. 20″
Whoo, that’s right Whoo, could resist the tiny Delftesque, ceramic owls. They appeal to adults and kids as they roost quietly between round and six-sided mother-of-pearl discs.
