Yesterday, I was in a quandary about the topic for my next “play and fun” blog post. I had a hunch that if I just kept an open, receptive mind, a good idea would eventually come to me. Around 4:00 in the afternoon, I went out to throw away my trash. At the dumpster, I ran into my young neighbor, Dmitri, dressed in his pajamas, slippers and a bath robe.
Since he’s an approachable guy, I noted his casual wardrobe and said, “you remind me of Hugh Hefner. He made wearing PJs all day very acceptable, even chic.
But you’ve probably never heard of him.”
Dmitri replied, “sure I know Hugh Hefner, he’s the Playboy magazine guy.”
“Did Hefner inspire you to dress this way?” I asked.
“No,” he said in mock umbrage. “Actually,” Dmitri teased, with a grin, “I inspired Hefner.”
Hit By My V-8 Moment
There it was, spontaneous PLAY-fulness and FUN. It’s so easy, especially when you’re dressed for the occasion. We chatted a bit about this and that. I mentioned his mom’s incredibly delicious, homemade vegetable soup, which she had insisted I taste a few days ago. Then we returned to our homes.
An instant later I realized–duh–that Dmitri is a real life enactment of exactly what I’m talking about in MyGemesis. He is the embodiment of casual living we find in catalogs from Eddie Bauer, Land’s End, and L.L. Bean. He gave me the topic for this blog post so seamlessly that it took a minute for me to digest it.
I grabbed my iPad, headed out and knocked on his door. When he answered I said, “may I take your picture for my blog?” “Sure,” he replied. What could be more natural? As soon as I returned home, I put on my own pajamas, robe and slippers. My hunch had paid off beautifully.
Hysterical!
Here’s to Dmitri Hefner! May we all sip milk and cookies in our PJ’s
For your information I am now in my PJs. Not being as handsome as your neighbour I decided on not having my photo taken. But you inspired me and I probably walk around in them until I have to leave the house for some shopping. Or not…..
PS. I love your jewelry
This is sweet, Diane. And Dmitri is adorable!
